How to find hotels with renovated rooms
- Check the renovation year, not the stars. A five-star hotel untouched for 15 years has older rooms than a fresh four-star. The year is what matters.
- Use the Chrono Score. Every hotel here has a freshness score out of 10 — higher means more recently renovated rooms.
- Read the newest reviews. Look for “refurbished”, “renovated” or “new room” in reviews from the last few months.
- Watch for hotels under renovation. A hotel mid-refurbishment may have works noise — see hotels under renovation now.

What does “renovated rooms” actually mean?+
It means the guest rooms have been refurbished — new furniture, bathrooms, finishes and fittings — since the hotel was built. A star rating measures facilities, not the age of the fit-out, so two same-star hotels can be a decade apart in how fresh their rooms feel. HotelChrono tracks the most recent completed renovation year for each hotel, from a cited source.
How can I find hotels with recently renovated rooms?+
Check the last-renovation year, not the star rating. On HotelChrono every hotel shows the year its rooms were last renovated and a Chrono Score (freshness out of 10). This page lists the hotels renovated most recently — start at the top of 2026 and work back.
How recent is “recently renovated”?+
As a rule of thumb, rooms renovated in the last ~5 years still feel current; after ~8–10 years a refurbishment is usually due. The hotels at the top of this list were renovated most recently, so their rooms are the freshest.
Do renovated rooms cost more?+
Not necessarily. Price follows demand and season more than fit-out age, so a freshly renovated room is often the same price as a tired one next door. That’s exactly why checking the renovation year before you book is worth it — same price, newer room.
Is a “remodeled” hotel room the same as a renovated one?+
In practice yes — “remodeled” is the American word, “renovated” and “refurbished” the British ones, and hotels use all three for the same thing: the guest rooms were stripped back and refitted. We record one number, the year the work was completed, so it does not matter which word the hotel chose in its press release. What does matter is whether a source states the year — no quote, no data.
